Murray, KY – The Graves County Eagles (27-7) defeated the Mayfield Cardinals (23-11) 77-71 in overtime for the fourth time this season to capture its ninth Region Championship in program history. The Eagles and Cardinals had played only two other times in Region Tournament history: in the 1993 Semifinals (Graves won 42-37) and in the 1997 Championship (Graves won 51-46). With the win tonight, Graves has now won 12 straight games.

Mayfield capitalized on a turnover to start the game and took a 2-0 lead after the opening tip, but the Eagles answered with an 8-0 run capped off by two Trevor Grant three-pointers to take an 8-2 lead. Mayfield would respond with a 6-2 run to cut it to 10-8. After a Brady Wetherington alley-oop to Chris Vogt and a Wetherington layup, Graves would take a 14-8 lead into the second quarter.
Jordyn Naranjo opened the second quarter on a personal 5-0 run to extend the Graves lead to 19-9, but Mayfield cut the lead in half 19-14 after an Anton Lumson basket and a Connor Guthrie three. The game was back and forth throughout the second quarter, but Graves closed the quarter out on a 6-1 run and took a 33-22 lead into the locker room. The Eagles shot 13-19 from the field, while the Cardinals shot 8-24.
The third quarter started with a three in back-to-back possessions from Ryan Mathis and Jordyn Naranjo to lead by 14. The Cardinals would not go away as they scored seven straight to cut the lead to 7 points, 42-35. Graves would eventually close the quarter on a 9-3 run on the heels of a buzzer-beating three by Naranjo to lead Mayfield 51-38 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Eagles opened the final quarter on a 3-0 run to lead by 16, the largest lead of the game, but Mayfield would cut it 10 after a 6-0 run. Graves would hold an eight-point lead with 2:35 left, but Trey Matthews would score to cut it to six. Graves would turn it over and foul on the ensuing possession. The Cardinals went 1-2 from the line to cut the lead to 61-56 with 1:54 left. After two missed free throws, DeSean Jones would hit a three for Mayfield to make it a 61-59 game with 1:27 to go. Connor Guthrie would eventually tie the game at 61 with a minute to go. The Cardinals then fouled Naranjo, who went 1-2 at the foul line. On the ensuing possession, Carson Guthrie would nail a three to put the Cardinals up 64-62. After a Mayfield foul, Brady Wetherington would hit the two bonus shots at the foul line to tie the game at 64 with 39 seconds left. On the Cardinals possession, Chris Vogt blocked a shot off of Guthrie with 4.7 seconds left. Vogt would then miss a half-court shot to send the game to overtime.
The Eagles won the tip to start overtime and Naranjo scored first for Graves on a layup. Carson Guthrie answered with a layup of his own. After Chris Vogt converted an and-one to put the Eagles up 69-66, Graves would never trail after that, winning 77-71.

Graves only missed 13 shots the entire game, shooting 66 percent from the field (25-38).
Graves shot 66 percent from the field, 67 percent (8-12) from long range and 61 percent (19-31) from the free throw line.
Mayfield shot 40 percent from the field (26-65), 33 percent (6-18) from 3-point range and 65 percent (13-20) from the free throw line.
Mayfield outrebounded Graves 36-29 in the game, including 19-3 on the offensive glass. The Eagles committed 13 turnovers to 8 for the Cardinals. Graves committed 20 fouls to Mayfield's 26.
Graves was led by sophomore Jordyn Naranjo's career-high 28 points, leading him to grab Region Tournament MVP honors. Senior Chris Vogt had a near triple-double with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Senior Brady Wetherington went 9-10 at the free-throw line and had 13 points and 6 assists. Trevor Grant and Ryan Mathis added 10 points each.
Mayfield was led by Connor Guthrie's 17 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Anton Lumson's 16 points. Carson Guthrie added 14 points and 8 rebounds and Trey Matthews had 15 points.
The Eagles will travel to Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky for the first round of the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen. They will face Region 4 winner Bowling Green (32-2) on Wednesday, March 15 at 12:00 EST. State Tournament tickets are currently on sale at Graves County High School. All tickets are $11.
