|Graves County High School||28|
|Warren Central High School||27|
GAME SUMMARYIt was a cold night for football, but the Graves County Eagles heated things up in the 2nd round of the KHSAA State Tournaments as they faced the Warren Central Dragons, whom they haven't beaten since 2004. It was a defensive first half, as the only scoring play was in the 2nd quarter by Warren Central, a touchdown pass. The 2nd half kicked off strong, as running back Cody Crider powered through the Dragon defense, running the ball 24 yards for a touchdown which tied the game at 7. The ensuing kickoff was returned for TD by Warren Central putting them back on top, 14-7. As the 4th quarter got underway, Cody Crider scored again, this time on a 6-yard run, thus tying the game yet again. This already great back-and-forth football game got even greater, because it went into overtime. Cody Crider on the 1st play on offense to kick off the 1st overtime ran the ball 10 yards for his 3rd touchdown. Warren Central scored thereafter, forcing the game to move into a 2nd overtime, the score tied at 21. Warren Central scored, but a pivotal and deadly mistake wound up hurting the dragons, as the extra point attempt bounced off the goalpost. Graves County capitalized on the mistake, as senior quarterback Peyton Puckett, on a clutch 3rd down situation, kept the ball on a bootleg and dove into the end-zone for a touchdown. The extra-point was good, and the Eagles won 28-27 in double overtime. With this victory, the Graves County Eagles, for the 1st time in school history, will advance to play in the Regional Championship against the Bowling Green Purples. We would like to congratulate Coach Lance Gregory and the Graves County Eagle football team on this accomplishment.
