CoEd Varsity Tennis
The KHSAA Regional tennis tournament continued on Monday at the Larry Heflin Tennis Courts in Lone Oak. The Eagle two seed of Hale-Carrico jumped out to an early lead by winning the first set 6-4. The McCracken County pair pulled ahead in the second set with a 4-3 lead before Hale-Carrico pulled even at 4-4. The McCracken County team took the second set at 6-4 to even the match. The match went to a third-set tiebreaker where Crabtree-Walker won the tiebreaker and the match.
In the other boys’ match, Ellegood-Hernando played number 1 seed Dodson-Dodson of Mayfield. The match was close early in the first set before the Mayfield pair pushed ahead to a 4-1 advantage. Ellegood-Hernando pulled closer to 4-3 but couldn’t hold on for the win. The Mayfield pair won the second set to finish the 6-3, 6-1 final score.
Hale-Carrico lost Crabtree-Walker McCracken County 4-6, 6-4, 1-0
Ellegood-Hernando lost Dodson-Dodson 6-3 6-1
In Lady Eagle play, none of the Lady Eagle players have an easy match on Monday as McKee plays the number three seed Natalie Lansdon of Paducah Tilghman. McKee started the match with a 4-1 lead. Lansdon came roaring back to win the next five games and the first set. The second set started as the first set finished with Lansdon won the first three games. McKee came back to win three of the next four games but that was all she could do. Lansdon closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Schultz played four seed Lara Shannon of Paducah Tilghman. Schultz played well remaining close throughout both sets. She was able to post 6-4 6-4 decision. Gabbie Lamb and Madison Wiggins play number one seed Poat-Puryear of McCracken Co. The match was competitive at times but the Lady Mustangs were just too much for the Lady Eagles as they won a 6-0 6-0 decision.
