Girls Varsity Golf
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagle Golf teams participated in the regional golf tournament at Paducah Country Club.
There was a closely contested competition for the girls' regional golf team champion. The Lady Eagles placed fourth as they shot their best round of the year 330. Fourteen strokes divided the first and last place teams. Marshall County (316) won the team competition with Murray High (324) finishing a close second.
Nicole Taylor led the Lady Eagles with a three-over par 74 which was one stroke behind eventual champion Hallie Riley of Marshall County. Taylor was not the only bright spot for the Lady Eagles. Laney Shoulta (81), Madison Myers (84), and Ellie West (89) all shot in the 80s with Neely Shoulta close behind with a 94. Laney Shoulta shot her personal best and Madison Myers shot her low round of the year. The Lady Eagles finished the year 8-4 with a second and third place finish in 18 hole tournament.
"The girls are definitely hurting over this result. They worked very hard this year and worked through some pretty tough adversity. However, one positive thing about the end of the year could be that we will return all of our girls for next year," Head Coach Chuck Whitnell said.
Nicole Taylor's runner-up finish earned her a spot in next week's state tournament in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Friday and Saturday. This will be Nicole's second trip to the state tournament as she made the trip her freshman year. It also marks the best finish of any Graves County golfer in school history.
